Employers throughout the Monterey Bay know that the unemployment rate is dropping, and if they want their talented employees to stay, they are going to have to be one of the Best Places To Work.

Thanks to the efforts of the Monterey County Business Council, our community now knows who those companies are. On Friday, August 23rd, six companies were recognized in the Fifth Annual Monterey County “Best Places To Work” program.

The Program recognized the following companies:

  • Whitson Engineers
  • Kennedy Archer and Giffen
  • Allterra Solar
  • Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority
  • Hyatt Regency Monterey
  • California State University Monterey Bay

The Monterey County Business Council commissioned the “Best Places To Work” in a special study sponsored by the Workforce Investment Board and area employers. The purpose of the program was to provide recognize local businesses that excel in the workplace outcomes and to benchmark employment practices.

The Monterey County Business Council has been working with Personnel Dynamics Consulting to calculate turnover rates, growth percentages, employee development spending, promotion percentages, insurance packages and retirement plans; a total of 37 different measurements to determine the area’s “Best Places To Work”.

With community and business leaders in attendance, the winners were announced Friday, August 23rd, at an Awards Luncheon at the Beach Resort Montery. Winners received a trophy, banner and will be allowed to display the Best Places To Work logo at their workplace.

Companies participating in the contest were required to answer a 40-question survey about their organization. Each participating company will receive a 20-page report documenting the results of the survey, information about their organization and samples of some of the best practices used in the community. The report, which is individualized for each organization, benchmarks the progress of each organization and encourages continuous improvement.
